About Kristin Kossi

Kristin Kossi is a German contemporary artist with Ukrainian, Russian and West African roots. After studying at the Academy of Fashion Design in Hamburg, she gained experience in fashion, photography and graphic design before dedicating herself fully to fine art in 2011.

Pop Art, Culture & Freedom

Kossi first became known for her expressive Pop Art, combining iconic characters, street-art influences and symbols of consumer culture in layered contemporary compositions. Through bold color, graffiti elements and a distinctive visual language, her work explores success, freedom, optimism and self-determination.

Today, her paintings can be found in private collections around the world. Familiar characters and cultural symbols become a visual language through which Kossi explores money, love, ambition, independence and the contradictions of contemporary life. Icons such as Scrooge McDuck, Mr. Monopoly, Bugs Bunny and Homer Simpson are removed from their familiar narratives and placed into new ones — sometimes humorous, sometimes provocative, but always reflecting something about the world we live in and what we choose to value.

From Pop Culture to Nature

In recent years, Kossi’s artistic language has continued to evolve. Inspired by her life between Germany and South Africa and the wild landscape surrounding her private mountain nature reserve in the Western Cape, her practice has expanded beyond Pop Art into increasingly abstract and nature-inspired painting.

Living and working closer to nature has shifted her perspective from the external symbols of success toward something more elemental — land, time, movement, solitude and freedom. Her recent abstract works explore wilderness, light, time and the relationship between humans and the natural world through large-scale compositions, layered surfaces and an increasingly intuitive visual language.

What connects these seemingly different bodies of work is a continuing search for freedom: freedom to succeed, freedom to question, freedom to change — and ultimately, freedom to live life on your own terms.

Artistic Practice

Kristin Kossi works across a range of materials including acrylic, oil stick, spray paint, marker and collage. Her practice combines intuitive painting with expressive gestures, urban influences and richly layered surfaces, moving between controlled composition and spontaneous movement.For Kossi, creativity is not simply a way of making images, but a way of understanding life — shifting perspective, questioning familiar ideas and continually redefining what truly matters.

International Recognition

Kristin Kossi’s original works are held in private collections in more than 30 countries worldwide. Her work has been exhibited internationally and featured in various publications and media. In 2025, New York Weekly included Kossi among its “Top Female Disruptors.”
