About the artwork:
Ancient Bloom emerged from my fascination with the wild proteas growing in the mountains surrounding my studio in South Africa.
There is something almost prehistoric about these flowers sculptural, strange and resilient. Rather than painting them directly from observation, I began working from memory, allowing their forms to become exaggerated, fragmented and gradually absorbed into the surrounding abstraction.
Layers of muted greens, dusty pinks, burgundy, turquoise and earthy neutrals are built up, scraped back and painted over. Some flowers remain recognizable, while others appear only as traces, creating the feeling of vegetation emerging from and disappearing back into the landscape.
The large scale gives the painting a physical presence. From a distance, the proteas anchor the composition; up close, the surface reveals loose brushwork, drips, scratches and unexpected passages of colour.
Ancient Bloom reflects an ongoing shift in my practice — from depicting nature toward painting the memory and sensation of being surrounded by it.

My work lives at the intersection of bold pop culture and personal reflection. Much of my work reimagines familiar faces — from cartoon legends to luxury icons — not to glorify them, but to question them, twist them, and ultimately make them my own. Characters like Mr. Monopoly, Bugs Bunny, or Homer Simpson become vessels to talk about ambition, abundance, and the absurdity of our times. It’s all pop — but it’s also deeply personal.
At the heart of it, I believe in art as transformation. I believe in creativity not just as a medium, but as a way of life — to shift perspective, to provoke thought, and to connect.
