About the Artwork:

Define your bathroom rules.

Don’t Do Drugs in the Bathroom is an original 40 × 40 cm Pop Art painting by contemporary artist Kristin Kossi, bringing humor, irony and a rebellious edge to an unexpected place the bathroom.

At the center of the artwork is the cheeky message “Please Don’t Do Drugs in the Bathroom” part house rule, part provocation. Bold colors and a playful Pop Art aesthetic transform the statement into an artwork that refuses to take itself too seriously.

Designed to surprise, amuse and start conversations, the piece plays with the idea of what belongs on the walls of a carefully curated interior. Instead of conventional bathroom decor, Kossi turns a private everyday space into a stage for humor and contemporary art.

Compact at 40 × 40 cm but impossible to overlook, Don’t Do Drugs in the Bathroom is irreverent, playful and unmistakably bold - a statement piece for collectors who prefer their art with a sense of humor.

My work explores freedom in its many forms through pop culture, ambition, nature and the choices that shape the way we live. In my Pop Art, familiar characters and cultural symbols become a language for exploring success, money, love, independence and the contradictions of contemporary life. Icons such as Scrooge McDuck, Mr. Monopoly, Bugs Bunny and Homer Simpson are removed from their familiar narratives and placed into new ones sometimes humorous, sometimes provocative, but always reflecting something about the world we live in and what we choose to value. Alongside this, my abstract work has evolved through a closer connection to nature. Living and working between wild landscapes in South Africa has shifted my perspective from the symbols of success toward something more elemental — land, time, movement, solitude and the freedom that comes from living closer to nature. What connects these seemingly different bodies of work is a continuing search for freedom. Freedom to succeed. Freedom to question. Freedom to change. And ultimately, freedom to live life on your own terms. I believe art can shift perspective. For me, creativity is not only a way of making images, but a way of understanding life — and continually redefining what truly matters.
