About the Artwork:
Scrooge McDuck Work Harder is an original Scrooge McDuck Pop Art painting by Kristin Kossi exploring ambition, determination and the relentless drive for success. Featuring Scrooge McDuck alongside the iconic Black American Express Card, the work brings together two instantly recognizable symbols of wealth, achievement and aspiration.
Scrooge has always embodied an almost obsessive determination to build his fortune. In Work Harder, Kossi plays with this familiar character and the contemporary culture of ambition — the belief that there is always another goal to reach, another level to unlock and another reason to keep pushing forward.
The Black Amex becomes part of this visual language of success. More than simply a luxury object, it represents exclusivity, financial achievement and the idea of having access to a world without ordinary limits. Combined with Scrooge, it creates a deliberately exaggerated portrait of modern ambition.
Created in Kossi’s distinctive mixed-media Pop Art style, the painting combines bold color, graffiti-inspired elements and urban textures with familiar symbols of contemporary consumer culture. Humor and excess run through the composition, turning the pursuit of success into a playful larger-than-life narrative.
Work Harder doesn’t necessarily tell us that more is always better. Instead, it captures the restless energy behind ambition itself — the determination to keep going when others stop and to create the life you want on your own terms.
Work hard. Dream bigger. Never settle.

My work explores freedom in its many forms through pop culture, ambition, nature and the choices that shape the way we live. In my Pop Art, familiar characters and cultural symbols become a language for exploring success, money, love, independence and the contradictions of contemporary life. Icons such as Scrooge McDuck, Mr. Monopoly, Bugs Bunny and Homer Simpson are removed from their familiar narratives and placed into new ones sometimes humorous, sometimes provocative, but always reflecting something about the world we live in and what we choose to value. Alongside this, my abstract work has evolved through a closer connection to nature. Living and working between wild landscapes in South Africa has shifted my perspective from the symbols of success toward something more elemental — land, time, movement, solitude and the freedom that comes from living closer to nature. What connects these seemingly different bodies of work is a continuing search for freedom. Freedom to succeed. Freedom to question. Freedom to change. And ultimately, freedom to live life on your own terms. I believe art can shift perspective. For me, creativity is not only a way of making images, but a way of understanding life — and continually redefining what truly matters.
